Quote from: IceL on Yesterday at 12:36:40 PMVery surprised by the new hire, did Tyrone apply for the HC job???
Yes. There's not many people within the Clovis West basketball community who are happy. To be fair to Coach Podesta he's been very good at Weston Ranch & has experience coaching in Fresno. I think it'll end up being fine. There were a few people who also weren't upset to see Walberg go. I just how this doesn't turn into a Buchanan baseball situation where a coach with no connections to the school gets ran out of town at the first sign of trouble.

Quote from: hardhitter23 on May 14, 2024, 11:09:47 AMIf I am not mistaken. LA area has 13 divisions
The southern section has 14 divisions & the LA City section has 4 divisions. The LA City section is compromised of public schools. The private schools within the city of Los Angeles like Loyola & Harvard Westlake are in the Southern Section.

Quote from: HS Harry on May 15, 2024, 01:02:39 PMHow did everyone play it yesterday?  Did #1 pitchers throw, or did they roll the dice and go with their #2 starters?
Clovis West went with their #2 starter Jake Turley who is a FPU signee. Tyler Patrick, Fresno State signee, will pitch tomorrow & be set up to start in the championship if they make it there. Nolin Santillan was the #3 starter during league play. I imagine he will come in if someone struggles early. Brody Santos led the team in appearances & saves. Playing only two games a week after playing 3 per week during league play is great for teams with deep pitching.

Quote from: Timmy Winn on May 14, 2024, 09:19:10 PMCW wins 8-4. I'd drive to Visalia to watch a CN v CW championship.
Wyatt Prieto being back is huge for Clovis North at the plate & on the mound. I'm not counting out any of the Bakersfield schools in a one & done format. The last couple of years has not been kind to the TRAC in the playoffs.

Quote from: footballforever on May 14, 2024, 09:55:02 AMI was an AD in the Sac Joaquin section several years ago when they were deciding to add divisions to volleyball. The discussion was any division below 5 (or maybe it was 6 at that point) would not have section playoffs and/or not be eligible to advance to state playoffs. I believe the section boards of managers can determine their own division structures and then shoehorn them into the state playoff system.
In basketball your division in secrion doesn't matter for the state playoffs. Bullard boys basketball for example are D1 in the central section but they were placed in D3 for the state playoffs.

Quote from: TeddyKGB on May 14, 2024, 09:53:38 AMThe Buchanan-Centennial rematch of last year's finals should be interesting.
Agreed. I'll be there before heading over to the Clovis West game. Not exactly the matchup a 1 seed wants in the second round. But they beat Centennail 14-5 earlier this year & of course dominated Buchanan in their three games ending Troy Glaus tenure.

According to the CIF website here's how many schools there are in each section:

Central 101
Oakland 20
Central Coast 143
Sac-Joaquin 198
LA City 128
San Diego 124
North Coast 169
San Francisco 15
Northern 70
Southern 556

Why does the Central Section have 6 divisions in football when the Central Coast & San Diego have 5? The Sac-Joaquin & North Coast have 7 which seems like a lot for them too.

Quote from: Crusader123 on May 12, 2024, 01:18:22 PMI wish we could get explanations for these decisions. The Edison one on top of North getting jumped by Central....
If this is their playoff format for the foreseeable future, then we deserve explanations so we can understand the process as fans AND so the coaches understand the criteria they need to meet
The only explanation for Central ahead of Clovis North is because they finished one game ahead of them. But the head to head & overall record should make that better.

Sanger & Edison are both D2 in their base division. Edison won the season series & tied for second in the CMAC but they were dropped to D3. Sanger finished in last place & are bumped up to D3. Makes zero sense. I know the central section will never do it but I'd love to see 8 team brackets with best of 3 in the semis or championship. Some other form of double elimination would be awesome too.

This might be a bad assumption but I'll make it anyway. I assume Central might be closer to Garza's level by then.
