Off Topic / Little Update... way up north.
January 14, 2023, 06:49:55 PM
As some of you long timers know I'm no longer a Californian anymore. I now live in North Idaho. Halfway between Coeur d'Alene and Sandpoint. I've got a view of Mt Spokane Ski Resort (there are actually 5 ski resorts with an 1.5 hour drive)..too bad I'm not an avid skier. This area reminds me of 1980s ..friendly neighbors...low crime... Its like a flannel clad Mayberry. It's nice to live where the citizens are armed..the police are WELL armed...the teachers can carry on campus and the pastor has 5.56 NUT for his license plate. I do miss the valley.....wait..no I don't. I miss the people in the valley. High School Football isn't hard charging here. WSU Cougs are closest college and the Seahawks are the default .12th man flags everywhere. But Iron Horse in CDA packs full with 49er fans...so that's refreshing. I just renewed the registration on my new F150... 165.00 for 2 years, and 20.00 for 2 years state park pass. I leave my .45 in the center console ( concealed is legal here..as are full auto and suppression for hunting and home defense). Gas is 2.95 gal. Power bill is under 200.00 month. It's mind numbingly clean...no homeless..no corner beggers. The only traffic jams in town are if a moose decides to lay down on Maine St in Spirit Lake.
A drive around CDA Lake right now will be filled with sights of 30-50 bald eagles fishing for kokane salmon. It's like living in a National Park.
AQI is never over 30...clean air til fire season...and wood burning is a religion here
The one perplexing thing I struggle with daily is...wth HAPPENED TO CALIFORNIA? I'd still be there if it was still like here !

Be well friends

Hey everyone.

Its almost opening season for Cen Cal Football season. For you old timers. Thank you for hanging around. For you newbies, Thank you for joining in. This site is still rolling along for almost 20 years. We are glad you're here. This site has been an awesome resource for HS Football for a long time. Sports Writers have gleaned info from it. College D1 coaches have also stalked recruits here along with finding diamonds in the rough. Myself and Spazilla will keep the lights on as long as its financially viable and participation continues. As social media evolved we saw numbers fade....but we are still relevant. So spread the word and encourage others to join.

Lets all have an amazing season. Pray for everyone to remain healthy. And remember its a game.

We all know that October is pink for breast cancer. But,the whole month is awareness for all cancers.
A lot of you know I'm an old timer here and the owner. I don't check in much as my son is now 23 and I've moved on to other endeavors. I just wanted to drop in and urge you all that if something doesn't seem right....get checked.
In March of this year I whacked my leg and ended up with a nasty contusion to my right shin. At the urging of my girlfriend I went to urgent care...and they feared I had a blood clot. Urgent Care sent me to St Agnes. That trip set off a set of events that has changed my life. During a CT Scan looking for a clot they discovered my lymphnodes in my abdomen were enlarged. After 4 days in the hospital I was released and told to see an oncologist. After a biopsy the news came back I wasn't prepared for. I have Follicular Lymphoma. Yup...I have cancer. This type of cancer is not usually detected til patients in their late 60s or 70s experience problems. I was 51 at the time. One of the youngest recorded detected cases in this area.
I've elected for quality of life and have put off chemo til it's absolutely necessary. So now it's PET scans every 90 days. And fatigue and discomfort. Why am I sharing this?
Get checked...listen to your body...don't be stubborn....don't be too proud...don't be too tough.
Just do it. There are people in your life that will appreciate it.
I'm blessed to have an amazing girlfriend that's strong and supportive.
My Idaho dream is progressing for those that are curious. Our home is under planning to be built in Spirit Lake where I'll finally retire for real. Time to do things for myself. Time is not infinite in the mortal world.
Be healthy...Be happy...and chase those dreams.

Welcome to the new guys/,girls...or theys for the gender neutral.
Valley High School football is upon us. And that means we will get a flood of fresh blood hopefully. As an older timer here it does me good to see this old place still standing. Weve survived My Space...Facebook...Twitter...Instagram ...SnapChat...and Tinder...lol
So, have fun....enjoy the banter. And Spazilla will keep the lights on for another season.
As for me....I'm not here much, graduation does that along with being semi retired.
I still consider this place one of my greatest investments. Its brought me joy...pain (Hurd...Ktown...and a host of others). But,most of all...its made me proud of the community we've become and what others have tried to duplicate.
I raise my glass to you Preppers.....and carry on.

BIG SKIN ......out.

To all the parents...fans...coaches and players,
August means HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL is here. Have a great season it will be over before you know it. I'm gonna do my best to check in. But since I dont have a player anymore and my life has went in a different direction I just dont have much time to be here. I've been a fan....then player parent....then I bought this place to keep it alive....the PREPS cannot....and will not fade away. With the help of Spazilla we will keep the lights on for the distant future. Social Media has thrown us it's worse....BOTS....HACKERS...and even RUSSIANS havent been able to knock us down. But weve survived. And you members are the reason we go on. Also to the non member watchers...thank you for stopping in too. College Coaches...Pro Coaches and College Recruiters has all looked to this site as a resource.
Thank you from myself and Spazilla for keeping the community alive. Spread the word and lets keep rolling. See ya in the stands....you never know where BIG SKIN will show up.

Good luck to all the teams this season. Gotta admit...it feels strange not having a player in the house. Chowchilla is now The Tribe. All things must change and end. It was a lot of fun and memories. Man,does time fly.
You posters keep on posting...and keep on clicking ads so we can keep the doors open.
In my personal life we've sold our business....listing our home to sell. And have made an offer on a home in Idaho...so big changes coming for  Big Skin. In 2018 I'll be rooting for the Orofino Maniacs....Back the Blue!!!!!

In closing thank you all for keeping this place rolling a long in this day and age of digital choices....you choose to hang out at the oldest watering hole in the valley.

I'm sure you've all seen it.
This was the most thrilling HS game I've ever seen. A battle of defenses was decided by 1 crazy play at the end. GW was speedy...physical and always played to the whistle. Chowchilla dug deep inside tonight. They made mistakes. But kept grinding and pulled it out. Next week will be brutal at Selma. 2 tough defenses...and 2 hard running teams. Gonna come down to who is fresher and healthy. The things the Redskins have needed to fix all season really need to happen in the title game.

For the seniors......PLAY hard....this will be the last night for most to ever play......have fun....be safe....and enjoy it all

2 weeks in a row
And tonight #20 takes a swing at a coach during the game?
#22 is sent to cool off by the ref.
Dropping F bombs so loud we can hear them in the stands.
I guess the mindset is if your.losing...let's try to get.players ejected...SMH.
Dont make me post the handshake video....inexcusable.

It's almost getting to the point that coaches need to have a class on DO's and DON'Ts in high school football programs. Some of these kids are having no favors done by being treated "special" or "different" just because of their home life or economic stauts. I was told long ago by a very wise man on how to change peoples lives for the better when your interacting with a group or in charge of employees or others that look to you as a leader...BE FAIR....BE FIRM....BE CONSISTENT ..... I practiced those 3 words daily and it did make a difference. I saw fellow employees stray from that advice and it made their group almost unruly. They grew too comfortable and too friendly with those they were in charge of. I see the same thing today at the high school level....big fish...little pond...coaches pets. They leave only to return when the REAL LIFE slaps them in the face. The LIFE that wins in a season did not prepare them for at all. Just because you have talent DOES NOT guarantee success. Success is only achieved by a balance of talent and a sense of right/wrong. Learn a lesson here kids.....DON'T BE CLIFF HARRIS....

I see this going on all the time...complain about pay...living conditions...etc...etc...but they send MASSIVE amounts of cash that they could live on here back to their families in Mexico...if they are sending this much money it tells me they really aren't doing that bad....

Over the years Lil Skins' drag racing schedule has forced me to miss a few games. Well....not gonna happen his senior year. That's not saying he's not racing....it's just saying I have to pull some WTH am I thinking things to make it happen.
This weekend is the NHRA Junior Drag Racing ET Finals in Las Vegas....sort of a crown jewel in his series....therefore he has to make qualifying passes Saturday morning around 8am. With him playing against Immanuel Friday night there isn't enough time to drive the big rig to Vegas and make it on time. SOOOOOO...I'll be driving the rig over late Thursday evening....we'll be parked by 2:30 pm Friday and set up....then I hop on Alligiant Air to fly to FYI by 5:45 PM to make his game. Then IMMEDIATELY following his game we jump in the car and drive all night back to Vegas in time for him to make the early Saturday call..(No flights available to get him there in time)...then Sunday night Lil Skin drives the car we drove over back to make 7 am weights....as I drive the Big Rig back.

This kid is killing me.....
