Does anyone know why the Central Section does not have all CIF teams like other sections? Basically an all Div team. So every DIV would have their own. Has this been done in the past in the Central Section? I understand the all league teams but to be recognized as a 1st team player in the DIV would be nice.

It has been done in the past (but long ago) . We have gone to an "all area" team & I think that the only reason why was because the sports writers (or lack of them) just stopped traveling the section to watch games & they were the ones who picked the teams (thought that was wrong all along) . It used to be called the "All Valley" Team / came out in the paper over CHRISTMAS vacation (winter break now  :d:)

They don't do the All Valley teams anymore?  For the reasons you point out, an all Central Section team would be difficult.  The teams play over a very large geographic area, with two big cities at opposite ends of the section dominating the most of the competition.  I guess you could get Ewing and Boogard together to see what they could come up with.

In the 80"s & early 90"s the all Valley Team was a true All -Section (All-CIF) team which included all Central Section teams & players from all 3 divisions - Yosemite / Sequoia /. Sierra .

No, It shouldn't be the writers making the teams. it should be the coaches in each DIV. They see each other first hand unlike the writers who just like was stated above don't see all the teams due to travel.

The best way to get the coach's input is to review the First Team All Conference selections.  While the coaches are making those selections in their respective leagues, they could also nominate players for All Section consideration, but you'd still have to have some objective body to make the picks.

Teddy and I can do it if you can't find anyone else.

1988-1992 Fresno Bee "All-Valley" teams only went as far South as Tulare and Porterville but did include all 3 divisions.

there is an ALL Valley team, they play at home games at Griffith ...heres a link

I can't think of any more rational, objective people to select an ALL-Valley team than izne and myself

Sixtynine

Probs cause the whole team would be made up of Bako kids cause of their speed
Just my opinion, but my opinion is right

TeddyKGB

That's right and not one from ____(fill in which team you're rooting for this week)  sixty

The Bee did select an All-Central Section team as their only all-star team from 1985-89. They also had an "All-Valley" in the 1950s and 60s (in addition to their local all-stars).

Who selects the All Valley teams now?  Or has that been abandoned too?

The Bee has gone soft with selections recently.  In my day there were 22 guys first team and 22 second team.  If you made that squad you were legit.

They were making those selections a few years ago, when did they go soft?

This past season when they selected 4-5 QBs in their 1st team.

I am talking about every DIV have an Offense team and A Defense team. So the best players in Div 1 would be selected and D2 and so on. yes it should be done by coaches not fans or media.

When you choose a team MVP, you usually hit it right on the head.  When you choose an all league/conference team, it's based on head to head competition by coaches and you usually wind up with a good (never perfect) result.  As you move away from that, the process starts to suffer.  I've seen some of the nomination forms for the city county all star game, and watched the coaches figuratively flip coins to make selections.  If you extend that selection process from Madera County to Kern County, and rely on a panel of coaches to make the selections, it will be so hotly contested that it might only have meaning for the players selected.

That's probably why it's never got any traction.  There is no common knowledge base that an objective selection committee can draw from.

Having said that, we need to temper our obsession with the kids who have God given talent.  They've already reaped enough recognition, and quite frankly, I wouldn't pay much attention to an All Section team.  If, on the other hand, every coach selected a Most Inspirational player and posted a few paragraphs about the kid, I would love to sit down and read those bios.  They are the heroes of high school football in the valley.

Inze, why don't you start one? like a blog type. Im being serious! I am just as guilty as the next person of loosing focus at times of what e=really matters in HS football.  Hey if you really want to I'm sure a few of us on here can help out with different players from around the valley and we can all come together and do something along these lines for the Central section. Im sure it would get a very positive response. Just think if you wanna see something like this how many other people are thinking the same thing? You have given me an idea!! send me your email on here and i'll run it by you.
