Title: MLB Draft
Post by: knightsrule04 on June 10, 2016, 03:37:14 PM
Draft began yesterday, goes through tomorrow. Congrats to Blake Quinn (Bullard/Fresno State/Fullerton) on being the highest-drafted current/former Fresno-area high school kid this year (as far as I can tell). Gambrell hasn't been taken as of my typing this post. Lambert and Lee from Fresno State have been drafted, as well as a Bako kid who was taken out of college.

Clovis North's Matt Frazier goes in the 39th round. Does he sign?

A's got a steal. I saw Frazier play this season three times against my boy and thought he was the real deal. Personally, I had him pegged in the 5-8 rounds. I would sign. It would be tough to walk away from Major League money.

He won't get major league money until he hits the majors. I'd be shocked if he signed.

minor league pays $1200 per month is that good money?  unless fortunate to have a large signing bonus of which none are really offered after say the 35th rd, certainly at 39 or 40 the slot money is thin...
if anyones been to a Rawhide game when a player hits a homerun they pass a hat around the crowd for donations because most minor league players survive on home stay volunteers and top ramen....

You get paid very well in the minor leagues. I made a small fortune in my time. If it wasn't for a bad knee, I would be playing third base for the Rockies right now.

You're absolutely clueless and full of crap. Most minor leaguer makes very little. I have multiple friends who retired from professional baseball because they had better financial opportunities outside of baseball. Many make less than $2,000. These two guys both have kids.

Your probably right. Nolan arenado wouldn't be playing for the Rockies if it wasn't for your "bad" knee. Close the yearbook guy.

I had a bad knee all the way back to my playing days at Archbishop Mitty. If not for my nagging knee problems, guaranteed I would be playing 3rd base at the major league level for the Rockies ahead of Arenado (who I've never heard of).

I'm at a loss of words. Arenado was an All Star, the National League home run & rbi leader last year. He's won three straight gold gloves. Unless you're the second coming of Cal Ripken Jr I don't think you had a shot.

Mitty, pretty good school...I have two uncles and three cousins that played and coached there, I'll have to give them a ring....

My knee did not allow me to enter my prime. When I was healthy the pitching didn't have much chance to get me out. The organization was high on my defensive ability too. Arenado's accomplishments look pretty good on paper, but there's no doubt in my mind I would be at the "hot" corner for the Rockies right now if it weren't for my knee. I had every Trosky infield drill memorized and it led me to a small fortune in the minors.

Pretty good on paper? He's won awards. You've done nothing. Here's an article on Arenado. http://on.si.com/28TSsK5

I'll provide the final word on this. I now WORK for a minor league baseball team. I haven't announced it here because most of the people I used to interact with no longer stop by this site, but I am the media relations director and radio broadcaster for the Idaho Falls Chukars, a Royals rookie-advanced team, this season. Unless these guys signed contracts with huge bonuses, they aren't making ANYTHING. Mustang must just be toying with everyone.

As an aside - tonight my team played the Rockies' team in our league, and one of the pitchers they threw was Ryan Luna from Corcoran. Pretty cool seeing another Valley kid out there.

I am not sure where this information is coming from. If it wasn't for my time in the minor leagues, I would not  have the small fortune I have right now. Maybe the Colorado Rockies take care of their players better than other teams? I want to say the Rockies, where I played in the minors, are the richest team in baseball besides the Yankees. I'm still looking for a full time job since blowing out my knee, but with all the money I made with the Rockies I have a big, 2 car garage home in Tulare. I would request signing with the Rockies out of high school or tell scouts you are not signing at all!

Not one single person on this list would be the starting 3rd Baseman for the Rockies right now...

I agree that none of those guys would play for the Rockies. I'm not on that list. I didn't play at Mitty my senior year. My parents couldn't afford the pricing. I would love to set up a home derby with you guys to prove myself. If I can find time with my 2 part time jobs that is.

So you weren't smart enough to have the Rockies cover the cost of college if it didn't work out for you?

When I was with the Rockies, where I played minor league ball, I shot up through the system. When I signed, I declined the option to have my college paid for. I went "all in" on making it to third base for the Rockies. Like I said, I would be there now if not for me knee. It was me burning all my bridges, no turning back. I knew if I had college paid for in my back pocket, I wouldn't have torn up the pitching in the minors....

That is a personal question. My work is my business. I will say that I would love to give being a lawyer a shot. When I get my B.A., I want to apply to law school. I've heard heard it is a hard process but I will try it. I want to apply to Harvard's program.
