Teddy sounds like a Garces sympathizer! Everything above is right on. Along with that the cost of tuition has a lot to do with the enrollment numbers at private schools. Asking Mommy and Daddy to shell out $10K a year for a higher education can be difficult for them. Schools like Garces and BCHS have to recruit students and reach enrollment numbers to just break even. In Garces' case, they need the Diocese, the Foundation, and the Hail Mary Club to help student families that cannot afford to go there. Yes, some of these students are stud athletes, but not all stud athletes can go to Garces or BCHS without being a good student first and foremost. The competition at Garces for grades is far more difficult than playing sports at any level. Some of the kids that left Garces over the past couple years did so for various reasons. One of those reasons was academic.

JV and Youth Football / Re: Frosh Scores 10/9.

The Rams freshman team also had (2) 2 way starters taken to JV this week which contributed to an anemic offense for Garces. Move was done by the Varsity Head Coach for depth on the jv. Lots of freshmen parents were pissed!

Take the State Champions from the open divisions from California, Texas, Florida, and 1 wildcard state. Would add 2 more weeks to the schedule.

Sorry Drillers, but I can't say BHS v. Edison is the game of the week. I think the Drillers are VC probable but Edison is not. They won last week against Buchannon  by a 4th quarter TD 13-7. Buchannon was a 1-10 team last year and should be better this year, but not to that high of level.

De La Salle enrollment is 1,039 ALL BOYS. St. John Bosco is more comparable at 758 co-ed, but with the distinction of existing in a demographic of 6 million people!!!

Enrollment numbers do matter to a point at private schools. The ability to control which parents want to spend the money to send their student-athlete to a private school for a Christian education is always a struggle. Yes, you can look at rosters and say Garces has 35 guys on the roster and BHS has the same number, but there is still a huge difference in talent level throughout those 35 players. BHS dwindles their roster down from 100 kids to take the top 35 most athletic and coachable kids while Garces takes all 35 kids that come out. I think the real reason Garces was moved to D-1 was a reaction to the amount of wins they getting and by the score differential in those games. I think when you take a closer look at the last 5 years of Garces football, yes there was a lot of wins but not enough to warrant a move to D-1. I did a little research and over the last five years, here is Garces' record against division level opponents:
D4- 8-0, D3- 21-0, D2- 15-6, and D1- 4-8. Now at an enrollment of 580, Garces is a .700 win percentage team at D2 or a .333 win percentage team at D-1. I bet if you look at Garces' enrollment numbers over the last 5 years you will see that number declining not increasing. With that said, what is done is done. Now it is time to just play it out and see what happens!

Central Section Football / Re: Kingsburg vs Garces

This should be a Great Game to watch. The teams are evenly matched. Garces averages 228 rushing yards & 139 passing yards. Kingsburg averages 226 rushing yards & 194 passing yards. Both teams run the Spread so there are really no secrets. Kingsburg scored 21 points against Lemoore. Garces scored 20 against Tehachapi.  Both defenses are solid! Kingsburg holding Lemoore to 13 first half points and 0 in the second half to win. Garces holding Tehachapi to 3 first half points and 0 to win. Garces' 2 blemishes were SLO which can be contributed to a VC hangover, and the best team in the Valley, BHS Drillers. Kingsburg lone blemish was Paso in Paso. Kingsburg's advantage is Home Field. Garces' advantage is strength of schedule. Great Matchup!!!
