Central Section Football / Re: SJM VS CENTRAL (THOUGHTS)

All coaches blow smoke but in the big picture, high school sports are generally irrelevant.  SJM, as a package, is far superior to most other public schools on any metric that counts.

If your son plays football at SJM, the odds of beating the Central All-Stars might drop, but the odds of getting a solid education and going to college skyrocket.  That's what makes the CUSD schools special.  Under Floyd Buchanan's leadership, the Clovis schools provide excellent educational opportunities and compete at the highest levels (well, they used to anyway...).

As tru guru eluded to, I was referring to the enrollment size. I'm sure never in the history of Hanford football did they ever imagine playing a D-I state powerhouse in the playoffs.

Hanford HS was D1 for many years, before they opened Hanford West and Sierra Pacific HS.

Brandon Ramirez, who I believe is now at SJM, will be one of the top soph's this coming season.

Sanders will get the Democrat nomination and he will beat Trump.  Too many people in this country want free stuff.

No way...  Bern's socialist agenda scares a lot of Dems too, and even more swing votes will go to Trump.  The Dems know it, and it's why they dont want Crazy Bernie.

Yes, Tiger fans wouldn't forget that name...   :D

If my memory is correct, didnt Cannon set a state passing record against Delano (throwing primarily to his brother)?

Redwood should be 2 and SJM 3

I've seen them both, SJM is better than Redwood.  I think these rankings are spot on for now.

Sanger is tops... but both Dinuba and Kingsburg can also produce a great atmosphere when their teams are winning.   I was very surprisingly impressed with Paso Robles a few years ago too.  Common theme, nearly all are one school towns.

... I better not hear someone say Memorial could have beat Central last year. I was at the scrimmage and literally just finished watching the film from it (I know someone). Memorial had EVERY starter in until the last 2 possessions and didn't score once against the 1's, 2's, or 3's from Central.

This has been hashed over several times, and not to rekindle, but you are factually incorrect.  SJM did not have all their starters play in scrimmage.   Im not saying SJM would have beat Central, but guarantee, the SJM team which beat Tulare would have gave Central all they could handle.

HA HA HA HA  .... the mere fact that they can re-load easily as a private school is reason enough for them to make the jump to D1. If Saint Joe is in D1 and I believe they will be then why should SJM get to play down? Nuff said  ...

Darth is spot on... and SJM does not belong in D1.  I personally think almost all the coast schools were seeded too high, especially in basketball.  Nonetheless, SJM is having a historic run and has probably their best team in school history. They will be moved up to D2 accordingly.

Not BLAMING society's problems on what Division a football team is placed in.

But, you first stated "Such a shame that Memorial played D3 this year. Such a shame and represents a lot of what's wrong with society."

Guess I cant read...

I think Memorial would beat them. Only issue o could potentially see is depth. Does SJM have a lot of guys playing on both sides of the ball?

SJMs has some skill players who go both ways at WR / DB.

So now you're blaming society's problems on what Division a football team is placed?  Give me a break... SJM played a far tougher schedule than many D2 teams, to include Tulare Union.  The SJM kids have worked their tails off, and have nothing to do with what Division they were placed in.  Beating TU showed they would have rolled over everyone in D2 as well, so give it a rest.

Central Section Football / Re: All CMAC Team

Bullard does appear to be overrepresented with nine on the CMAC 1st team, while SJM only had four.  However, SJM had four more selections as the Offensive, Lineman, Defensive and Specialist players of the Year, to give them eight.  Still doesn't make sense Bullard would have more.

All CMAC Football Team

Offensive Player of the Year : Alec Trujillo - SJM         Defensive Players of the Year: Justin Hunt - SJM & Kwebena Watson - Edison

Lineman of the Year: Konnor Gomness - SJM             Specialist of the Year: Josh Kelly - SJM

Offense                                                              Defense
QB Colt Nelson - Madera                                        DB Kobe Jenkins - Bullard
RB Marcus Filcher - Bullard                                    DB Dezjohn Malone - Edison
RB McKinley Lee III - Edison                                  DB Kosi Angina - Sanger
RB Mathew Posas - MS                                          DB Deandre Greeley - Bullard
WR Jalen McMillan - SJM                                        DB Leonard Glass - SJM
WR JJ Espinoza - Madera                                       LB Jake Levato - Bullard
TE Jake Boust - Sanger                                         LB Roman Wells - Bullard
OL Michael Smith - Bullard                                    LB David Ayala - Sanger
OL Tommy Slatic - Bullard                                     DL Tobin Phillips - SJM
OL Steven Gomez - Sanger                                   DL Kyrece Hildreth - Bullard
OL Hunter Chuhlantseff - SJM                               DL Dezmon Hunter - Bullard
OL Isaac Salas - Sanger                                       DL Andrew Fuentes - Edison

Coach of Year: Anthony Goston - SJM

Reoccurring theme...  nearly every team that has success gets accused of having outside players.  Bottom line, winning attracks kids, whether it's a private or public school.  As long as the rules are followed, why should it matter?

On another note, the state is slowly pushing up our Central Section teams in the playoff divisions. In 2015, our D3 champ was placed in 4AA. This year, CVC (D4) was placed in 4AA and SJM was placed all the way up in 2A.  I also don't feel that our D1 champ should be placed as high as they are, not even close.

Yep... as it's been in basketball, the CS teams always seem to have an uphill battle when it comes to state playoffs, especially against teams from the SC, in the supposed name of equality.

...For me and me only these two are similar Championships to WU Championships in the  early 2000's with all their transfers kind of like "Meh, how could you not?"

So now any kid who doesn't stick to their Jr high feeder school is a traitor... lol, really?  Can the same be said for a coach that left a school for what they perceive a better situation?  Your above comment about talent holds true with any team that is loaded, private or public.

... Transferring to "THE STAGE" so my kid gets recognition seems a lot like path of least resistance  BS.

Just curious, if the parents of really good WR felt their son could get more exposure at a school which runs a spread offense, rather than playing in your wing-T offense, you feel that's a path of least resistance?  I agree far too many kids today run from adversity, however I don't think people should begrudge parents for doing what they think is in their kid's best interest, to each their own.  Often, the transfer is counter productive, as we all know it doesn't always play out as expected, and many simply learn the grass isn't alway greener on the other side.

Easy now... last time I checked when Central and SJM scrimmaged this year and it was an absolute ravishing. Tompkins wasn't even suited up. Starters played 2 series for Central and SJM had their studs in the entire scrimmage like it was Championship game. If I recall correctly Central scored 5 TD's and SJM ... 2 first downs. SJM would get completely embarrassed by Central in a regular season game.

Not that it really matters...but your post is inaccurate.  SJM scrimmaged without starters too, and they pulled several before Central scored most of their TDs, late in the scrimmage.  Again, its irrelevant, and not saying SJM wins, but the Panthers would not get embarrassed.

Yes, SJM is having a historic year, with a great group of kids.  They won Valley back to back and the CMAC this year for the first time in school history.  Prior to last year, they hadn't won a Valley title in 15 years.  SJM will be moved up like everyone else.
