you're right shafter, I don't believe JJ will let the Big 12 championship leave Texas. I have no doubt that there will be a title game there.

Quote from: TeddyKGB on February 13, 2024, 04:03:40 PMits my understanding from a friend that lives in Vegas that there is a plan to build a new airport out by Primm. Once the A's are in Vegas how long will it be before an NBA team moves there?

That will blow it wide open.  McCarran will be dedicated to private air traffic and probably be the busiest of its kind in the world.  It was land-unload/pickup-and-go only during Super Bowl weekend.  No available space to park your planes.

that or they will use the land to build more casinos, McCarran is prime real estate

Teddy....NBA commissioner Adam Silver was on the Pat McAfee show today...and stated that Las Vegas is at the top of the cities in regard to league expansion.  The NBA is coming to an end of their 9 year media right deal (after next season).  Would assume, they will look seriously into expansion after it expires. Other cities up for consideration are Seattle, Mexico City, Nashville, Vancouver, Montreal and Las Vegas. So their is both domestic and international competition for franchise bids.

The NFL is probably considering making Las Vegas the permanent home of the Super Bowl.  They have the best of everything in one spot.  I'm sure Las Vegas could make it lucrative enough for the owners to agree.

At least we wouldn't have to worry about a team having home field advantage in the Super Bowl

Ant I can see Nashville getting an NBA team they already have NFL and NHL. I wouldn't be surprised if Mexico City got an NBA team there is lots of money there. With both the NFL and MLB looking to move global it would be a way to start moving in that direction.

The two franchises already have a handshake in place. Las Vegas-1 will be co-owned by Lebron's group (same group that owns Red Sox I believe) making him the first owner/active player in the league, and Seattle is getting a franchise back. It'll be two franchises. But they are waiting on the media deal to come through. Problem-viewership has been down (staying the same YoY and not growing) so there's more of a rush to get this negotiated.

I don't follow the NBA and don't know anyone that really does, but I am also not in the demographics that seems to be NBA fans

The NBA new tv deal will be interesting to see. Their tv ratings are much closer to MLB than most people think. It's big on social media but that hasn't translated into tv ratings.

With the University of Texas and Oklahoma headed to the SEC (and Texas A & M already in the SEC)....the draw to Texas for a BIG12 title game in Jerry's house is not a given.  The Anthills prediction, The Big12's next expansion includes UNLV....and the conference title game becomes a party in Las Vegas.

will the SEC title game leave Atlanta for Arlington? Perhaps the BCS title game ends up at Jerry's world?

Did you only stay for one game? If you get a chance you should watch the 6A games, they are usually played on Saturday

Yah, just saw the Aledo game. It was Friday night.

TeddyKGB

Aledo won didn't they? It's too bad you didn't get to watch North Shore vs Duncanville or the Desoto game.

Yes, they have the record number of titles now. They made a slick move and built a 9th grade school to keep their population down to stay in 5A...

They have 3 frosh teams and 3 JV teams at one school.
