I wouldn't be surprised to see CVC make a long run into the postseason.  They have a new coach and a lot of returning players.  Anytime a team returns their two best pitchers, they have a chance.  Caleb Flores has a chance to be really good on the mound, along with Jack Reitsma and Dalton Daily.  Daily has a chance to be a really good player.  The lose of Chase Daniel may be the only thing holding them back from valley contention.

Coach Garver was a class act!  He loved the game and the kids.  He will be surely missed.  I know the assistants have taken over this season, but I wonder if they'll be looking for a full-time coach next year?  If they were smart, they'd offer Jake Kiser at PC and teaching job along with the baseball position.  He's a great baseball guy, just doesn't have enough talent to work with at PC. Good luck to Exeter this season!

Graham Harrison did get the job at CVC.  Hopefully his second go around will go a lot better than his first at Mission Oak. I've never doubted his knowledge of the game, but he has a tendency to ruffle a lot of feathers. He spent some time as an assistant for Bert Flores at El D and Jake Kiser at PC, hopefully he's learned from those guys.  Good luck to CVC, Harrison, and his staff.

The new head coach at Mt. Whitney is going to be Nick Yockey, per board approval, which will be a no brainer. Yockey is a PE teacher on campus and has served as a JV coach for several seasons. After Kiser turned down the position, the AD was left scrabbling and went with the easiest choice, not saying it's a bad choice by that either. Having a teacher on campus is always a plus and you also have someone familiar with the program and kids. From what I understood from someone interested in the position, no interviews were conducted. Whitney really wanted Kiser, but VUSD was unable or unwilling to get him a teaching job. Having a coach in place is good for the program. Best of luck to Coach Yockey.

It wasn't Whitney's decision to turn down Kiser- Kiser turned down Whitney because he could not get a teaching job within the district.  Kiser only wanted the position if he could also teach in the district.  Kiser is going to return to Porterville College for the upcoming season.  Whitney is currently looking for a head coach and there isn't much word on who that will be.  There is no teaching jobs available, so it would be an off-campus guy.  It is understood Whitney also wants to move quickly to get a head coach, because fall ball is starting soon and the head coach also takes care of the great playing field on Whitney's campus.  AD John Perez is looking for the right fit.  The right fit to me would be Bert Flores, but the last time I spoke to Bert, he said, "If I could get in with a teaching job, I might consider it." Well, we know there is no teaching jobs, so where does that leave us.  It's hard to find baseball guys that have schedules to coach.  If anyone has anything else to add, please do...

Baseball / Miller Steps Down at Whitney

Ryan Miller resigns his position as head coach earlier this week. Word is, "he was tired of dealing with parents." Miller did a great job and it's sad such a good baseball guy was run-off by parents. Seems to be a theme throughout the valley.

Baseball / CVC Head Coaching Position

Anybody think Archuleta and Alves will apply?
#8
This is where it stands. . . Labby was the first choice and he turned it down/asked for a bunch of money from the booster club and it fell apart. Archuleta was told today that he didn't get the position and that it was filled. A parent interviewed and we know he won't get it. So that leaves Alves and Harrison as the only other people who interviewed. Neither one of them has been told whether or not they got the job or not.  It's either one of them or they are searching for someone who didn't interview to take the position.

I've heard from three different people that have applied, and none of them have heard a word. Maybe money has something to do with how long it's taking, if that rumor is true about one of the applicants!?!

Both of those yards are pretty big. The wind blows out to dead center, making the field play smaller than the dimensions. Both Tulare Western and Tulare Union's fields are impressive when you hit them out. Western's field is over 400 in centerfield and has deep gaps. Plus, 330 down the lines isn't small. Union's field is sunken and the wind blows in from straight left. 320 down the lines, 367 in the gaps, and 390 in centerfield. The ball doesn't carry at all at Union. Kern County's fields are all too small!

Reedley College assistant coach, Josh Labandeira, in fact did interview for the position today. Farmerville High School head coach, John Alves, also interviewed today. I've also heard a parent of a freshman player interviewed too. Not sure on the first name, but the last name is Acosta. If these are the only guys to interview, then Labandeira has it locked up. Anyone else hear of names that interviewed?

I find that interesting that Hydash didn't apply. I know he applied for the El D position. Who's the JC assistant you feel is the front runner?
#13
Redwood should be filling the position soon. Interviews are going on later this week. John Silva from Farmersville, Dan Hydash from CVC, and two parents are they only ones that applied. Assistant coaches Ryan Blair and Mike Cooper haven't applied. With no teaching position and parents issues, it appears this talent group had very few applicants. Has anyone else heard anything?

Clovis baseball and it's fans. . . It's almost like Red Sox-Yankees or Dodgers-Giants. . . I am sure most of you guys on this post have been involved in the illegal bat scandal! haha

To me it does seem like it's been made into way too big of a deal. The fact that the 32 and 34 models are okay and the 33 isn't show that it could have been an honest mistake. Donald also may have had no clue the bat was a 33. To me the kid should receive more of the blame than the coach. The situation was handled and it really shouldn't be a big deal.

No one wants kids to quit, but sometimes it is the kids themselves that were the problem. From what I have heard from players, parents, and coaches, one of the kids that quit missed a game on a 3 games over a weekend and a practice without a word being told to the coach. When the coach talked to him about it and saying it wasn't okay the kid quit and told the coach, "go to hell." Who was in the wrong there? Not the coach. . .
The other two kids that quit, told one of the coaches they didn't want to practice and gave horrible effort the rest of the practice. The next day they turned in their stuff without talking to the coach. The reasons I have heard why they quit were, "practice isn't fun", "we work too hard", and "coach gets on us too much". Practice at the high school level isn't meant to be a fun, and as we all know kids no-a-days are a little lazier and don't take being told what to do as well as the generations before.
One of the kids that quit, quit sophomore year under Warren and was allowed to come back, and he also quit his junior year, told Dodson(head coach last season) "F--- you! I quit!" and stormed out of practice because the coach asked him to shag the balls for the bucket during BP. That year the kids father begged the coach to let him back on the team, and they did. This kid has great ability, but doesn't like being told what to do or working hard. To me the kids character should he called into light, not the new coaches.
Kids quit everyday on baseball teams across the valley and it shouldn't be that big of a deal in this situation. Do I agree with the putting up online that the kids quit, probably not, but at the same time it doesn't mean the program is in shambles. Also have to remember this was the program where the parents ran out the coach last year after one season. I have heard the parents have been a little bit of a problem this season as well. I think in time we shall see how it all turns out.

Clovis East beat Mt. Whitney 4-2 and Mission Oak beat Edison 5-3. Only game I haven't heard about is Madera vs Clovis East. Did Beyer and Merced not play today?

I really do not know why Mission Oak and Tulare Western are even in this tourney. I believe they both went 0-8 last year. Mission Oak is a D-4 team and is in a middle of the row league. Western is D-2, but probably should be D-3. I've never understood how coaches think their teams can get better by getting pounded 8 games in a row to start the season. MO lost to Bullard 22-0 last season, hopefully it won't be as bad next Saturday. Only blessing these two schools may have is being in Pool A, which means they will not play the Clovis schools in Round Robin play. . . I am setting MO's over-under on wins in the tourney at .5 and Western's at 1.5, what does everyone else think?

The "FCC" logo is the classic look, but I did not like the "F" from last year. Looked like the "F" for Ford's F-150. I liked the "F" in 07-09 that looked like the Fullerton "F". But to each his own.
