Brad Showers has retired after 29 years. Three of the best programs in the section have had legendary coaches retire in the last couple of years.

Only thing that stands out is Clovis East being in the D2 bracket.

Any thoughts on Immanuel hiring him to be their girl's basketball coach? I'm not a huge fan of this decision. Their press release announcing the hire really rubbed me the wrong way.

Just found out that Monte Prieto passed away. Not sure on the details. But this sucks.

Atnaf Harris is no longer coaching at Edison because of "personal issues". Anyone with some info on this?

Just heard the unfortunate news that Fresno City assistant coach San Flores passed away today because of a brain aneurysm. Prior to coaching at FCC he was at an assistant at Edison(02-03,08) and at Clovis West(04-07). He was the head coach at Hoover from 2009-2015. In 2014 the Patriots went 20-7 & won their first league championship in 39. He's been a full time teacher in FUSD the last 14 years & has been teaching PE at Hoover.

I heard that Fresno schools will only have JV & Varsity teams this year. Are kids coming out really that low?

The two best high school baseball coaching jobs in the Central Section are open. Is it safe to assume that Brad Fontes will stay on at Buchanan?

8. (10) Buchanan (Clovis) 8-1
At the beginning of the season, the reported plan was that 20-year head coach Tom Donald would sit out the first few games on a suspension. Since then, Donald has resigned with John Sylvia taking over as the head coach. Donald is still teaching PE in Clovis Unified. The Bears still have all of their returning players and on Monday topped Clovis 6-3 in a Tri Rivers Athletic Conference contest. Brady Hormel smashed a three-run homer while ace TJ Fondtain got the pitching win. Their only loss is to Redwood of Visalia (5-3) in the third game.

11. (18) Clovis North (Fresno) 8-1
It's safe to say the Broncos were looking like a top five team for this week's rankings if they were 9-0 and in front of Buchanan. That didn't happen, though, due to suffering the first loss 5-2 last week to small school power Minarets of O'Neals. Junior Riley Cooper already is looking like one of the best pitchers in the state (including seniors). He had a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts in a 9-0 win last week against Clovis East.

Frontier & San Luis Obispo are both on the bubble.

Looks like he won't be at SJM next year & will be at Prolific Prep in Napa. I heard rumors this was happening but was hoping that it wasn't true.

I think it's going to be a long season on the diamond for the Golden Eagles.

I'll focus on D1 because that's what I watch the most. Everyone after the top seed is really hard to place. The only teams I have seen 7 through 16 were Edison, Liberty & the bottom 3 TRAC schools. I also didn't consider first round league rematches when seeding. Centennial, Ridgeview, Righetti & Stockdale will not be in the playoffs. CW will have a first round bye.

1. Clovis West: Champs of the toughest league in the section. Wins over a full strength SJM team, Arroyo Grande & just blew out Clovis North who was the only team from the section to beat them.

2. Clovis North: They have a win over SJM, split with Clovis West, Bullard & Clovis East. Only questionable loss was against Liberty. But Isaiah Hill is probably the best player in the section outside of Jalen Green & he was dominate that night.

3. Arroyo Grande: Extremely weak non league schedule pushes them back a spot. 2 point loss to Clovis West & 15 point win over Bullard just sneaks them ahead of Bakersfield. If they would have won dominated their league more than I would have them jump Clovis North.

4. Bakersfield: I saw them play 3 games early against Buchanan, Bullard, Modesto Christian & SJM. They went 2-2 losing to those last two teams. The loss against Bakersfield Christian & the weak SWYL hurt them a l
5. Bullard: Three of their four losses are against the 3 teams directly ahead of them & to a full strength SJM. I can't give them credit for their win against SJM because the Panthers were without Jalen Green & Braxton Meah. 

6. Clovis East: They're  underwhelming when you look at them physically. But they might be the most well coached team in the section. I would consider them being higher but they have two really questionable losses against Edison in double overtime & Central in their regular season finale.

I'm sure they'll try to avoid Clovis East vs Central & St. Joseph vs Mission Prep in the first round.

I thought I would start a thread dedicated to these games because every other thread right now is people fighting about SJM being in D3.

So 3 of the 6 Central Section teams have been placed in the South.

Central, Tulare & San Joaquin Memorial will all be in the North. Because of the fires the sections in the north haven't played their championship game yet. Assuming De La Salle wins the North Coast Section again they'll be playing Mater Dei in the open championship game at Cerritos College. If Liberty-Brentwood pulls off the upset then things will be interesting.

Cal Hi Sports is projecting that Central will play the top team from the Sac-Joaquin Section in Folsom. They're projecting an all Central Section matchup in SJM vs Tulare.

I'm sure there will be more but I've already seen two big transfers in the section, specifically Bakersfield.

Hector Gonzalez the QB fro Redwood in 2017 has transferred to Liberty. He will play basketball for the A Patriots too. Also should be noted that Isaiah Hill's dad told Trevor Horn from the Bakersfield Californian that he won't play football in 2018. Gonzalez will probably be their starter in 2018 now.

Tahj Wright, Bakersfield receiver & defensive back, is transferring to Ridgeview.

The Clovis West quarterback is now committed to Nebraska.

The Mountain West just announced that the conference championship game will be in Boise next Saturday at 3:45 pacific time. Both team finished the regular season 9-3 overall with a 7-1 conference record. Fresno State beat Boise State yesterday 28-17. But apparently the average ranking by the four computers that were used in the BCS format matter more than what happened on the field. Boise State finished with an average ranking of 30 & Fresno State was 34.
