Hey listen to all you guys on here whose teams are not in Valley Championship game "Tell your wives/husbands you're free tomorrow night!"

LOL when we showed up to play in Madera we all had to put our helmets on before getting off the bus just in case someone threw something at us.

By the way it was exciting, we still talk about it, and although it was "tolerated" it was tolerated.

Back in the good old days

I personally think it is hilarious and there is no reason for people to get all upset over nothing. The truth hurts I guess.

Back when it was just Clovis high and Clovis West the amount of trash talking was unreal! There was no social media or anything else it was people calling and saying things, saying things at other events, the occasional fight in the parking lot of the volleyball game on Tuesday before the Friday football game.

There was much more going on then a sign being held up by a cheerleader. There's no wonder our kids today have so much difficulties dealing with adversity. There are people getting worked up over a sign. LOL

Get over it, kids lost, they got it rubbed in a little bit, and guess what win or lose they have memories for a lifetime. The whole part of sports is that the times of adversity will make the kids stronger, better people.

We forget why we play the sport and it's not so everyone wins in the end.

Div. III        Tulare would destroy SJM if they played.

Wait the same Tulare team that lost to TW? A little too inconsistent to use the word destroy.

Dos Palos got the win in the regular season and I don't think much will change. I say DP wins 17-10

The one upset that I think is the most probable is Frontier over CW. The CW offense has been weak this year and they have relied on their D to win games. Frontier is a team that could take advantage of that lack of offense and easily win this game.

The other game that I feel a lower seed will win is Bakersfield over Edison although I think that it can hardly be called an upset these two teams have mirrored each others struggles this year.

Madera High beat #6 seed Tulare Western but gets the #9 seed.
That equals a trip to Kingsburg and if they win that they get the #1 seed.

Taft ends their season 8-2 and was rewarded with the #8 seed in Division 4 LOL

You don't get to rank yourself....You rank the league with out yourself in it.

My point was in the CSL you are going to have numerous thoughts on who is better as the top 3 schools all beat each other. In the NSL the other 5 teams will all vote for WU because they were #1.

Kingsburg took 5th place out of 5 schools in the CSL and beat WU 35-17 in week 6!

I am still waiting for someone to explain the rationale of W.U. being seeded so high. I may be a homer but they met none of the criteria.

Both teams had the same record, did not play each other but had 2 common opponents. In those 2 common opponents games Exeter was 2-0 and W.U. was 0-2.

League should not have as much to do with it, and coaches votes isn't right for this simple reason.
In the NSL all 6 coaches are going to rank WU high because they won the league but in the CSL that will not be the case. CVC will rank themselves, Exeter will rank themselves, Selma is going to rank themselves higher then Exeter, and so on. The coaches votes is a joke because there is no way it can be unbiased.

That Chavez and Exeter game is going to be a great quarter final game but should be more like a semi final game.

I believe the Washington Union Exeter ranking question is a legitimate question

Both teams are 6-3

Washington Union's wins have come against teams with a combined record of 17-35
Those teams are:
Monache 2-7
Hoover 1-8
Sierra 1-7
Chowchilla 7-2
Liberty 6-3
Yosemite 0-8

Washington's losses have come against teams with a 15-12 combined record

Exeter's wins have come against teams with a combined record of 26-29
Lindsay 4-5
Woodlake 8-2
McLane 4-5
Mission Oak 3-6
Wasco 2-7
Kingsburg 5-4

Exeter's losses have come against teams with a combined record of 17-10

They both have a few cupcakes on their schedule and I know those teams rankings have some value but when you see the difference shown above and you add in how they did against like teams it really is a no brainer IMO

Like teams
Washington Union lost to Kingsburg by the score of 35-17 (not close)
Exeter beat Kingsburg by the score of 40-33

Washington Union lost to Mission Oak by the score of 25-19 (5OT)
Exeter beat Mission Oak by the score of 41-24 (not close)

There is nothing here that would suggest anything other than Exeter is the better team based on performance and like opponents

Please tell me how W.U. is ranked above Exeter in the Max Preps rankings? Identical W-L records but Exeter has a higher strength of schedule and wins over  Mission Oak and Kingsburg, both to whom W.U. lost to. The only possible factor is the win W.U. has against a slumping Chowchilla and a 4-0 record in a weak league.

Cal-Preps Ranks the NSL 102nd with an average rating of -3.2 and a Avg. non league schedule strength of -3.1

The CSL is the 44th ranked division with an average rating of 14.3 and Avg. non league schedule strength of +3

If Madera South can get the love for playing in the CMAC and getting their butts handed to them I think the folks in the CSL should get the same appreciation.

This is a great question and one I questioned earlier. I don't understand why they are getting so much love

Chowchilla is still my sleeping beast. I like Taft and Union also. This division is a headache. No idea where teams are going to line up.

I like Chavez and Taft as the frontrunners of the division and my sleepers if there are any in this division are CVC or Madera South. My cinderella team or the one I would like to make a good run is McLane. It's just nice to see a program that has been down for so long having some success.

I don't understand where Washington Union is getting so much credit for this year? They had a losing record last year and the only quality win if you can call it that is over Chowchilla (no disrespect intended). Other then that they've beaten the likes of Yosemite, Sierra, Hoover, Monache which doesn't say much. A win against Kerman will somehow get them a top 3 seed but a lose could drop them down to a more realistic seed of 6 or 7.

I dont know if thats a good example with majority of those teams with losing records at least the Golden West example. You can say that about a bunch of teams. I believe Chavez has a winning record over D3 South who are leauge champs 8-2 D3 West 6-3 D3 Highland... Thats more impressive then Delano 2-7, Mission Oak 3-6, Mt. Whitney 4-5 and El Diamante 4-5

You say that but Washington Union lost to both Kingsburg and the 3-6 Mission Oak team and are possibly being considered a top 3 team. That to me means that those D3 schools have a major impact on seeding even if you lose because it's perceived to be a "tougher" schedule. Who has Washington Union beat? A tough Chowchilla team, a Liberty team that is nothing like it has been in the past? Aside from that they have not beaten anyone. It looks like they had a close game with SJM but still lost.

Having said that I believe the Golden West is a good example, Chavez should be the #1 team in this division. CVC, Exeter, and possible Selma should get some consideration equal to or better than Washington based on wins over teams that Washington lost to.

There are so many variables in this division you could spend all day on this one. Not to change the subject totally but how would coaches be able to honestly seed this division? Coaches should have zero say except in a tie-breaker situation because there is too much going on and a concensus seems like an impossible task.

Coaches who felt slighted in the past because of an undefeated record vs a 1 loss team getting a higher seed.

In actuality, the system for ranking could be successful if used only as a tie breaker/end game ranking tool. The issue is that it is being used as the #1 option. Like you said, this leaves the door open for all sorts of bias, both intentional and unintentional.

What you just said was perfect! How long did that take to work out a couple of hours? Why does the CIF always seem to get it wrong? Better question which coaches got in their ear had that kind of influence?
