That may be but doesn't negate the archaeological value of the find....many of the canonized books weren't written down for many years after the events so anything that is unearthed today that sheds light on ancient events and views is worth examining.

What was found had already been known. The fragments found were written in Greek.

The Gnostics denied the deity of Christ ...

They found what is thought to be the original material written in its original Greek composition.  What they had up to this point were translated copies from the original Greek....that's what makes the discovery noteworthy.  What the Gnostic believe or don't believe really isn't relevant from an Archaeological perspective.

Here's a very interesting lecture on the gnostic gospels (DaVinci Code) vs New Testament writtings. I also found one by Dr John Ankerberg who is or was probably the premiminant scholar ...
