Quote from: Cristobal on May 09, 2024, 02:19:31 PMThe boundaries are a mess, if you live in the new development on Shaw and Leonard/Highland you are in Sanger's district even though you could throw a rock and hit CE.

how does that work, Sanger is not in CUSD are they? Who has to enforce if a kid has to go to Sanger but lives next to CE?

Its not hard to believe that the district doesn't care about the talent pool being diluted, its surprising that a district like CUSD that for a long time prioritized athletic excellence would take steps that hinder said athletics. How would they increase enrollment? Will the new campus be built outside of what is now CUSD boundaries? What are the enrollment numbers for the CUSD school?

Garces-open...any front runners??? Any other news??

No telling, it seems like the alumni-boosters want to win but want to win with kids who's last name is on the reserved parking signs.

Quote from: Timmy Winn on May 08, 2024, 07:51:24 PMClovis South will open in august of 2025. They will have seniors by 2028. At that point I assume their sports teams will be in the TRAC. Adding them makes 7 schools. Do they drop Central to make the TRAC 6 again?

CUSD has done a 180 degree and is now diluting their talent pool by building more schools.

Yes Shafter has St. Joe. I would say that the top programs in Kern County are:

1. Liberty
2. Shafter
3. Frontier
4. Kennedy
5. Tehachapi

this is program quality and how competitive they are within their league and divisions.

Quote from: Bud Kilmer on May 08, 2024, 02:50:35 PMAccording to the Kern High Network, during his first go round at Foothill he led his freshman football team to a 10-0 season (means absolutely nothing) and his varsity baseball team to a valley championship appearance.

I say this to say he may know how to get kids to rally around and play hard for him.

I believe he's from Wasco originally, but I can't swear to that.

Chris Wedel is Foothill's new head coach.

Quote from: Timmy Winn on May 08, 2024, 12:05:50 PMI believe that the cream rises to the top and that, 'if you're good enough someone will find you'. I still think that is true, but I do think a market has emerged to support these 'mediocre' players and help get them to the next level.

I believe that regardless what these "recruiting" gurus say high school coaches still have plenty of pull and when they are contacted by college coaches or scouts they are able to say yes Jimmy over at ABC High is a pretty darn good hitter check him out or yes this kid can play for you. And no matter what a consultant says the kid still has to be able to check the boxes.

Kennedy does have something good going on over there, Shafter added St. Josesph to their nonleague schedule. The Shafter-Kennedy rivalry is really becoming a good one, both head coaches have established good programs and are trying to get teams from D1 an 2 on their schedules.

Quote from: eylchamps on May 08, 2024, 12:43:32 PMThe last SSL vs D1 school was Wasco, getting trampled on by the Drillers.

I believe you are correct, Shafter played Bakersfield High last year but they are no longer a D1 team.

Looking at some of the nonleague games on the schedules as of right now looks like a couple teams are playing Turlock, Liberty is playing Santa Margarita...I think Kennedy has stepped up the most they have Hanford and Buchanan on their schedule. When was the last time an SSL team played a TRAC team?
#11
I think a minimum of 5 is generous, but I can see a team scheduling a grueling nonleague schedule that does deserve to be in the playoffs. I would say a minimum of .600 or 2nd place in their league.

Quote from: Timmy Winn on May 07, 2024, 04:43:57 PMWhich gives them more power. Before, if you couldn't cut it at your school you weren't going to play. You had to either transfer (which still didn't guarantee a spot)or give up. Now your parents can pay to put you on a team year around and you can play as much as you like. Money plays.

you're right...parents can pay so that junior plays, and if he can't cut it on one team they will find that team that features little Johnny at Short Stop or Pitcher or whatever position the parents believe will lead him to the promise land

Quote from: Timmy Winn on May 06, 2024, 04:13:45 PMThe emergence of travel ball really changed the landscape and gave parents more power.

I don't know if I would say it gave them power so much as it made it much easier to "take their ball and go elsewhere".

Quote from: DonnieBaker1962 on May 07, 2024, 06:25:36 AMThe general rule used to be... If a team wins valley a couple years in a row they get bumped up.

I never understood this its seems like: you're doing too good lets put you up so someone else has a chance to win.

I agree with Bud but when in the history of the CIF has the CIF done anything that makes sense? The reality is parents, coaches, kids and school admin want to be able to say that their kids/team when to the playoffs and won a "championship" even if that is a D4 or 5.

pag is slow because word is his office was cleaned out yesterday.

Quote from: izne1home on May 03, 2024, 01:50:36 PM$20k is nothing at any school.  Garces should get off the transfer train and play with the boys they have, even if they drop a division or two.

$20k is barely enough to get one thru a weekend in Vegas! I believe that is what the garces booster what, they want to watch their kids play but they also want to win.

#18
I had heard that some of booster were not happy, specifically the family of a QB that went to Frontier.

I heard earlier this morning but do not have details as to what happened, just that he is no longer at garces.
