College and Pros / Update on Trevor...
March 29, 2016, 03:37:38 PM
Hello Fellow Preps!

I know many friends out here have asked about Trevor, so here is an update:

Trevor finished his season holding 2 BYU Records alone, tied 3 others and finished 2nd in several other BYU historical stats.  He was so blessed on his time with BYU.

He had his NFL Pro Day last Friday...  If Trevor never plays another down of football, he sure went out in a blaze of glory!!  He did not do any of the drills (40, Vertical leap and such), as he was told by a lot of specialists not to do so, save his legs for kicking...  and kicking he did!!  He had 15 field goal attempts, made 13 of the 15...  He was kicking the ball GREAT!!  Both misses, just barely missed.  One was from about 40 yards and other from 55 yards.

The NFL scout running his drill had him kick from different distances and moving around between the hash marks.  At the end, he pushed Trevor back to 50 yards...  Trevor split the uprights.  "Alight then, that was easy enough, are you ok if we push you back some more?"...  So they back up to 55 yards.  Trevor just missed the first attempt...  Nailed the second attempt right down the middle and would have been good from easily 60+.  The scout tells Trevor, there is no need to do any kickoffs.  We know there is altitude here, but we can tell by the sound of the ball, you are hitting the ball well, you have great height, great trajectory and a strong leg.  Do you have an agent?  When Trevor told him no, the scout responded back with 'You probably will want to get one!".

Friday night at the Senior Awards night...  Trevor got his Jersey (Framed) and Helmet (in a case)...  and awarded "Special Teams Player of the Year".

Don't know if the NFL is on the horizon...  But that is just icing on the cake at this point!!  Dad's pride could not be any greater!!

So proud of this CW Golden Eagle, FC Ram & BYU Cougar!!!!

Thanks you Preps for your support over the years!!!

Not everyone will win, but hopefully everyone will still find joy and pride in their accomplishments!!

What an exciting day...  ENJOY!!!!    :u:   :u:   :u:

What a heck of a year...

Trevor set a BYU school football record this year (Highest Field goal Percentage for a Single Season) @ 85.7% (Old record from 2002 was 81.3%)
Led BYU team in scoring this year with 98 points.
Finished 9th in the NCAA Division 1 for Field goal Percentage.
And BYU has him listed as a Player to Watch this year and Groza Award hopeful.  (The Groza Award is for the Top College Kicker, the same as the Doak Walker Award is for the best Running Back).

BYU had it's Pro Day at the end of March.  During the Pro Day, the players who are going to be Seniors for the up coming 2015 season had to register with the NFL.  Trevor said it surreal registering for the NFL and very cool meeting so many NFL Scouts.  A couple of the scouts even knew who he was...  Trevor was at first dumbfounded and then he said he realized... "$hit just got REAL!"

Can't wait to see where this season takes him!!

Just getting the info out to our local kids (and parents).  If you have any questions, feel free to PM me.

Just some of their upcoming opponents starting between 2016 to 2020: UCLA, Michigan State, Arizona, Arizona St, Hawaii, LSU, Cal, Fresno St (@ Fresno in 2017), Notre Dame, Stanford, Wisconsin, Washington & Washington St... To top it off, a great home stadium, plus a whole lot of being on ESPN...  Not a bad gig!!  And oh yeah, a top notch education to boot!!

Listening to Trevor talk about his year, he is having a ball playing as the visiting team in a bunch of football stadiums.

He said the Texas Longhorns stadium was AWESOME, UCF's stadium was nice, Boise's stadium (blue field was crazy) and their visitor locker rooms SUCKED!!

Being a part of BYU (the most traveled team in the nation this year @ 19,000 miles, not including any bowl game) he has/will give him a great opportunity to visit many more awesome stadiums (Cal later this year...  next year: Nebraska, UCLA & Michigan (Wolverines) to name a few).

It got me to wondering...  if you got to choose a stadium to play in as the visitor...

Longhorns stadium, Notre Dame and Tiger Stadium...  Hard to leave Michigan Stadium off the list being the largest of the lot (cant even imagine playing in front of 109,000+ fans cheering against you!)  The Rose Bowl would be cool...

What stadium would be on your bucket list?

Sorry, extra ticket is gone...

I heard it from a reliable source about a week ago, but was surprised not to see anything already mentioned on here.

Has anybody else head about this?

I imagine the Pagmeter is going to be in TOP FORM today...  The CIF released their seedings for Basketball this weekend and now the Pagmeter is going to review how bad they blew it, especially in the Woman's D1 seeding.  Can't wait to see what the CIF's justification was on this one!

Of course there will be talk about other sports too..  Baseball and I am sure our favorite (Football) will get touched too!

Make sure to tune and and perhaps you can give an oppinion or two also!

College and Pros / Donelle Vercher headed to Wisconsin
February 13, 2013, 07:32:51 AM
Congrats to the players at FCC who are moving on...  Donnelle to Wisconsin and I know one other player is headed to Nebraska...  I suspect both are going to get a whole new view of what a home game advantage feels like!

Yes, there are other players moving on also, but these two get to enjoy being part of some big time programs and that is really cool for them!

Congrats to both!!    :D

I was really shocked when I read this...  If this is really happening at COS...  That is just sad is all I have to say.  This is a statement made in another JC football forum by a parent of one of the COS players.  I am glad my son is at FCC.

Over- promised, Under delivered (COS)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It is a downright shame that a team with talent like the COS GIANTS, can't win a game? As of late...when it matters ?
Losing on Saturday made me want to voice my concerns on this forum and ask the question on "what has happened"

Injuries? I see the same players out there, the same plays and the same results the last 4 weeks a LOST.

Without going into my knowledge or experience as a coach, it is quite obvious coach Doughtery' s staff is NOT a JC type staff?

The Defense makes adjustments (wrong adjustments at that) on the dime, the coaches "scream" instructions to the players as the play is in motion? The players react to the coaches with disrespect, with disregard of who is in the stands? Profanity by a young man, I believe his number is 42? That player should have been escorted to the locker room and sent to the bus. I was embarrassed for his family members if they were in the stands? But you know what the HC allows that! More then once did I hear players disrespecting other players, refs, and coaches? That is what hurts a program. And it is a shame, me and my family, friends had to experience that.

The Offensive Line by far is the weakness on this side of the ball? It is amazing to me that a former NFL player would allow his OL to look this bad? The word PRIDE came to mind, as I and fans watched this OL get beat like a drum time after time we wondered if the players just don't want to respond to the coach? It didn't look like it?

In speaking to a parent of a current player during halftime I was told that the players DON'T work on technique? Run a few warm up drills, get into squads prepare for the game plan ( minutes) not hours and then get into game situations? (Other teams offense or defense). Film is not mandatory? I nearly choked on my 7.00 hot link (Sierra prices)! No kidding! No film? Lets just say this player is in the game plan week in week out. NOT a disgruntled bench warmer.

As I sat there all I could think of was a number of (glaring) things.

Players make plays (check) coaches call plays to help players make plays ( problem)!

1. Why in the name of all that is holy does the Defensive cord and DB keep playing man? I believe the DB have been torched enough times to know that the coach made it personal, that HE was NOT going to be beat personally? At the expense of his players? Bad idea and bad coaching!

2. Will Coach Doughtery make adjustments in the off season? Because there will not be any bowl games in 2012 this team is in to much disarray inside and out? It is clearly visible. And will the HC make the " right" choices for the program? I believe coaches should get 3 years to try and place their stamp on a program ( win or lose). And I must say in 2012, with the current situation year 2 is not in the right direction.

I hope the staff, coaches, AD and others read this. I am a concerned parent, fan and former coach. Please make changes needed that will help the players develop and COS a winner! Because as a Central Valley resident and fan of the CVC ( even the former teams Reedley, West Hills) change might be needed, it rolls down hill first coach. Don't let COS become the laughing stock of the league.

The next 2 games will and should determine the future of this program.

College and Pros / Re: Tyler Bray
October 24, 2012, 08:17:48 AM
It appears the extra practice is not helping much...  This from the Tennessean today:

Coach Derek Dooley has warned Bray that he could be replaced if he remains careless with the ball after throwing two interceptions and no touchdown passes in a 44-13 loss to Alabama.

In four SEC games this season, Bray has thrown eight interceptions and six touchdown passes. Tennessee lost all four.

"If he's loose with the ball, he's coming out of the game and we're going to play (Justin) Worley," Dooley said. "I told him that. He's too loose with the football, and he's been too loose. That's the way it is.

I know it is last minute notice, but they could use some sponsors to  help cover the cost...  If anyone is interested in helping out, please PM me.

Thanks!

Central Section Football / Calling all Place Kickers...
September 11, 2012, 07:33:14 AM
Trevor's kicking Coach (Paul Assad) is thinking about doing a kicking clinic here in Fresno, this coming weekend, but he needs enough interest to make the trip down here worth while.

If you are interested, please PM me and I will pass the information along and will get you details as they become available.

If you live in the Bay Area, this is the guy you go to...  Trevor and I spend months driving up to Modesto every weekend for training and yes, it was worth it!

Here is a little info on Trevor's Coach:

Website:  http://www.coachassad.blogspot.com/

Coach Paul Assad has consulted players, coaches and draft experts at every level and has developed a reputation as one of the Elite Teachers of American Football's Kicking Game including more then 40 NFL starters as well as UFL, Arena, NFL Europa, XFL.  His players have won 5 Lou Groza Awards for College Football's Most Outstanding Division 1 Kicker and he has referred millions in athletic scholarship earnings over the past 15 years.

Who will be there?

I will be...    :)

I am curious what teams do you think will surprise some people.

Big surprise it is...  I am picking CW Girls.  I am really surprised with how some of the under classmen (Ladies) have improved.

Not saying they are going to beat Buchanan (That is a tall task), but I think they are going to end up fairing better than originally thought.

Clovis North has some strong runners also.

Watched Cody (from Buchanan) run last weekend at the Watermelon run at Fresno State...  He looked really strong!

Got wind of an Athlete who as already completed the transfer paperwork and it has been approved as an interdistrict transfer from Clovis East to Clovis West...  fairly good athlete (Prior Fresno Bee All Star as an underclassman).  I am being told the transfer is beyond sports and may very well be...  Not that it makes a difference anymore.

Even though the CIF only says this athlete has to sit for 30 days...  CUSD is standing by the 365 day rule and is going to make the athlete sit for 1 full year.

I was told however, that if the athlete transferred in from outside CUSD, then they would follow the CIF guidelines for transfers.

Sounds like CUSD will not be putting together an All Star Team anytime in the near future.

Makes me wonder if any other school districts are going to make sure kids are not just bouncing around in their own district or will it be transfer chaos?!

If you are in the area and need a car wash or just like to rummage, please come by the Clovis West campus (Teague & Millbrook) today between 6:00am to Noon and help us on the CW Cross Country Team.

Thank You!!    :)

For those of you who remember my son Trevor, his kicking coach will be in Fresno this weekend and is scheduled to work with Trevor at Fresno City College this Sunday (tentatively at 3:00pm)  Normally his sessions are in Modesto.

Trevor's coach (Paul Assad) will be opening up the session for any local kickers who might be interested getting an evaluation and are looking for some true kicking coaching.

Here is a link to Coach Assad's website, so you can check out his background yourself.  Although it took a lot of work, Trevor is at the tail end of learning his new technique and the difference is astounding!  Two weeks ago, Trevor hit his first 60 yard field goal and then again last weekend, he hit a 61 yard attempt, just missing two other attempts to the left...  and Trevor's coach says he still going to get even better.

You can contact Coach Assad at: (209) 595-4277 or email him at: [email protected], if you would like more details
.

Hope to see some of you kickers out there!!  Just tell Coach Assad know that Trevor Samson's dad let you know about this weekend

Willie Mays Hayes: What the hell league you been playing in?

I know most of the TRAC schools will be there...

Any of the south valley teams going to be there??  I know several Bakersfield and North valley teams (Madera and Merced) were at the Clovis East meet yesterday.

Looking forward to seeing a lot of teams there and having a great meet!!

Off Topic / And they call this 'Leap Year'...
February 29, 2012, 07:48:00 AM
Ever wonder why they call this 'Leap Year'??

Isn't this really like 'Non Leap Year'?

This is the only year where we have all of the days (including Feb 29th)...

Doesn't it seem like the other three years are all 'Leap Years', leaping from February 28th to March 1st?

I'm just saying...

Debates roll on, we all use words here to attempt to get across our point of view or tell others why they are wrong and we are right...  sometimes we really have the same point of view, but are just saying it a little different.

And some of us are more lucky than we realize...  just a reminder that the words we us can make a big difference in telling our story.
