I know a few coaches are on this site and most schools don't have the manpower/$ for a strength coach. The Army Football strength team posts their training plans on Twitter for all to use. You can find them here: https://x.com/conorhughes67/status/1692584791357424000?s=46&t=mHUV87v7sVplJ0bf8etkQQ

My West Point classmate Sean Mullin directed a documentary about Yogi Berra. It came out in some regions last weekend and has a 95% critics score and a 100% audience score on rotten tomatoes, a huge write up in The NY Times and was a discussion point during one of the recent NY Yankee baseball broadcasts. This weekend it gets released in Fresno. I want to recommend this to everyone whether you like baseball or not. I haven't had the chance to watch it myself yet (it is released here in Jun 16th and I will see it that day), but I've been looking forward to it. I'm told you will laugh and cry so prepare accordingly.

I haven't read the study but I found this tweet interesting. Fresno and Bakersfield are ranked 2 and 3 in recovering downtowns. San Francisco, Cleveland and Portland bring up the rear.

College and Pros / America’s Team
March 01, 2023, 02:41:10 PM
Denver is making a run at really becoming America's team as 2 of their 3 coordinators are military academy graduates. Joe Lombardi (grandson of Vince and Air Force Academy grad) is their new Offensive Coordinator and West Point graduate Ben Kotwica is their new Special Teams Coordinator. Ben flew Apache helicopters in Iraq before getting into coaching.

This is the point I was trying to make. As IZ said below this message. From my conversations in real life, most people are someone in the middle, and we are able to have meaningful conversations. Sometimes I'm swayed, sometimes they are, or we walk away still disagreeing but with a little more context and empathy to the other side.

I blame 24hr news. As soon as news became 24hrs, it became entertainment. When it became entertainment, it became polarizing. When it became polarizing, it got money.
I'm 100% with you on the 24-hour news product. It's the worst thing this country has ever devised. It's designed to piss you off (either in CNN/MSNBC on one side or Fox News on the other) so that you'll keep watching. I think this really hit me in 2017 when I was in Iraq. We had a Marine Lieutenant Colonel in our office who turned a TV to the Armed Forces Network news channel. This channel basically switched from CNN to Fix News to MSNBC throughout the day. Everything was designed to piss you off. He had to leave for a couple days so I changed the channel to Armed Forces Sports while he was gone. The Colonel saw pre-season football and made a comment about how nice it was to see football and we were spared the agony of having to watch the 24-hour news channels from then on.

One thing about diversity....is that it's a two-way door.  Diversity in thought can be a painful thing....when one finds out that half the world does not see things from their perspective.  In those cases...agreeing to disagree is the best position.  But when every point a view is heard with equal right to repetition and volume....then you have true diversity.  There is no diversity when people's thoughts are squelched because they do not see things exactly like the opposition does (regardless of position).  Those instances (of difference) require mediation, compromise and understanding.  Diversity is not wanting something and getting it now....we also live in a meritocracy that also involves getting what you have "earned."  Many people who have the bully pulpit in this country (mostly social media platforms)...can only see one perspective (theirs) and then attempt to mute the opposing point of view.... or claim it as racism because it does not fit their agenda.  In reality we don't have near the racism that some want you to think...What we have is diversity in opinion.  My point....Timmy, state your views....without them there is no true diversity...but in a democracy we must be prepared for difference of opinion.  All should be allowed to speak and be heard....not agreed with!

The Anthilllegend
So true about racism. Racist thought is so much more prominent in other countries than it is here, yet you hear about it here more often because of the diversity that we have. Having lived a couple years in Asia, you'd be surprised at what natives out there would say to you but because they have no diversity in many of those countries you don't see incidents because there is no mixture of people. Here people want to promote racial and gender diversity but only if there is no diversity of thought. It's a big reason so many people are upset with Elon Musk buying Twitter.

The Ukraine offensive is pretty interesting. Regardless of how well the defense against the Russian invasion was going, you can't win military engagements without going on the offensive. I wonder if Ukraine will be able to get all their territory lost in 2014 back.

The offensive has also resulted in more voices rising against the Russian Army from high ranking Russian officials. All are still in favor of the war but I wouldn't be surprised to see Putin's right hand man, Sergei Shoigu get removed from power.

We do a very poor job of assessing risk and 2nd order effects, let alone 3rd, 4th, etc. Life is inherently risky. People seem to have forgotten that. Yes, COVID is a risk to some people (more so to the obese) but there is risk to the mitigation techniques recommended or pushed on our population. Virtual schooling really screwed up children's education. This is especially egregious considering children had extremely low risk from COVID. It might make sense for kids to redo a year or two or school to make up the lost time. Nobody wants to hear that but maybe that would be best for the country and especially our children.

Huh? You ok?

Zero Blog Thirty, it's a Barstool Sports ran pod.
CPT Cons was a few years behind me in college.

I'm not sure there are many podcasts that look at things from the strategic level as there are very few experts in strategy. However, we can win every tactical engagement and lose a war if we don't have a good strategy (see Vietnam). However, you can also make the case that while we lost in Vietnam, our actions there caused the Soviet Union to think twice about attacking us in other theaters. After all, if we were willing to fight and die for little South Vietnam what might we do if they invaded Europe? After all, our big strategic goals during the Cold War were to stop Communism and avoid Nuclear War. We were successful in both. Likewise, after Sept 11th our goal was to defend the homeland from terrorism. While we've had some single actors and small-scale incidents, there hasn't been anything similar to 9/11 in the 21 years since then.

Tell me how it works....I'm not trying to convince anyone of anything, but would love to learn from your expertise? As I said, I'm going off what people have told me, and as someone who can't bench 200, keeping this country safe isn't really my cup of tea. But if you'd like to have a conversation about pronouns, LMK

Russian technology isn't the problem. It's strategy, leadership, and morale (and which is a subset of leadership). They are using hypersonic weapons that we are still testing. And if you remember a few years ago, one of the Trump administration's defense priorities was to upgrade our nuclear weapon deterrent as they are old.

The threat of nuclear missiles being launched from Russian doesn't have the same level of threats that they had prior to the war with Ukraine. The tech Russia has shown has proven to be years/decades behind ours. Our tech will see it coming as soon as it happens and will have the ability to intercept somewhere safer to reduce casualties. Just going off what my friends that are veterans have said. That being said...I think he gets taken out prior to anything like this happening, whether by Russians or other intel agencies already infultrated
As someone that works at NORAD, you couldn't be more wrong.

Kinda, but arguments can be made that the 2nd best team at say Bakersfield High was still better than the best Liberty team...

Kingsburg had a run of teams that where loaded which was the best 09, 10 or 11?

you're right that team they had with Jordan Love was loaded

1. Bakersfield Drillers (1989)
2. CW Golden Eagles (1995)
3. Central Grizzles (2018)
4. Mt Whitney Pioneers (1978)
5. Clovis Cougars (1991)
6. West High Vikings (2005)
7. Clovis East (2003)
8. Redwood Ranger (1996)
9. Buchanan Bears (2000)
10. Liberty Patriots (2015)
11. garces Rams (1987)

The best Kingsburg team was the 09 team with Tyler Bray. They crushed everyone they played. Both QBs ended up as D1 starters. Probably not enough depth for the bracket but the best team they've had.

It's really surprising how poorly the Russian Army has performed in Ukraine. I've see estimates are that the Russian Army has lost 20% of its combat power so far. That's a crazy high loss rate less than 2 months into a war. Especially one you expected to finish in a manner of days.

The information war is surprisingly different from what I expected to see as well. For the past 6 years we've been hearing how good the Russians are at molding our political discussions and effectively controlling a portion of the population through their information warfare. However, Ukraine is clearly winning the information war right now. Based on what you hear, you'd think Ukraine is winning. Russia has gained some land, though, so I don't think you can say Ukraine is "winning" although they are increasing the costs to the Russian Army. The big question with regards to the information war is how do you ensure the Russian people have access to what is happening? Russian media is pretty controlled so we need to find a modern "Voice of America" or something to speak to the Russian people directly(probably need something similar with China).

Finally, the talk of removing Putin or trying him for war crimes isn't a wise discussion right now. Regardless of his behavior he still has access to nuclear weapons and is more likely to use them if he feels an existential threat to himself.

NO - that's a whole different thing. Covid 19 is a pandemic and obesity is a lifestyle choice. If I get 6 feet from your fat ass I'm not going to have to suck up the thousands of extra calories that you have wasted today in order to stay fat. But if you breath your covid infected breath on to me I have no choice but to keep breathing! If my kids run into your 44 oz soda sucking face - they don't have to drink it too !!  Obesity is not infectious - it is a life style choice - learned by kids from bad parents.
Obesity may not be contagious in an obvious way but it's clear normalizing it makes it OK for others to gain weight as well. Heck, if you point out that someone should lose weight you are now accused of "fat-shaming." If we categorized obesity as a disease it would absolutely be considered an epidemic. And overweight people absolutely fill up hospital beds. You can get vaccinated and boosted (and boosted) if you desire to limit your risk of catching COVID. The moralizing on both sides is just meant to divide us.

The benefits of the vaccines are being advertised as a spectrum of protection: either preventing infection altogether, significantly reducing serious illness or hospitalization, and reducing the risk of death to near zero.

From your experience, when you say the vaccines are losing their effectiveness, do you mean they move down the spectrum as they decay, or completely dissipate?

It's hard to say. My symptoms were pretty minor. Was that because Omicron has minor symptoms or because I was vaccinated? Personally I think it had more to do with Omicron being a mild strain. I say this because a co-worker that is younger and in similar physical condition to me had a very bad COVID infection when Delta was rampant. He was vaccinated but went to the hospital multiple times during his infection. And I'm assuming I had Omicron since it is the most common strain right now but they never really confirmed that for me.

The history of Coronavirus vaccines in animals show decreasing effectiveness. Most lost their effectiveness around 6 months after vaccination. That seems pretty similar with what we are seeing with humans right now.

As to what the vaccine is supposed to do, we keep seeing that evolve. It was supposed to have 90%+ efficacy in preventing the disease. That had proven to be false. Then it was sold as making it milder. I think we are still learning about that. My guess is that it causes a milder illness for a few months but this protection will wane as people get 6 months+ from vaccination.

Why was mine charged to my provider(s)?????

UPDATE: How is it my 17 yr old vaxed grandson became infected with Covid this week?
It's pretty clear the vaccines lose effectiveness pretty quickly over time. 3/4 people in my household got COVID over Christmas and all are vaccinated. The only one that didn't catch it was my youngest who caught COVID a few months ago and was vaccinated later than the rest of us.

if you dont get the shots then you should have to pay cash for the hospital stay !!!  the shots are free . If you choose not to - stay away from everybody else in the world - for your religious / or any other reasons - we DO NOT want you around.
Same for anyone overweight as well, right? After all, more people use hospital space due to their poor diet/exercise routine than COVID. Plus, not being obese helps mitigate COVID symptoms as well.

Herd immunity happens with vaccinations or with infection. Otherwise it's with us forever, like the flu. My personal expectation is that it is with us forever.

Had my breakthrough case over Christmas. Pretty sure I got it from my vaccinated and boosted father as we attended the Army/Missouri Armed Forces Bowl at TCU. It isn't often that our respective schools play each other so we figured we'd attend. Boosters don't seem to affect Omicron. Omicron, however, is mild enough that it may prove to be nature's vaccine. My symptoms were basically the same as the symptoms I had from my 2nd Moderna shot. My 72 year old mom and dad seemed to have had similar symptoms. I think letting Omicron spread may be the best defense against future mutations.

Denver,

I will try my best to explain. First, I took both Covid shots, so I am not against this shot. I have been vaccinated against the standards: mumps, rubella, measles, etc, thus, I am not anti-vaccine.

I dated a gal who was anti-vaccine and her entire family was also, so I heard about being anti-vax before all the Covid stuff went haywire. The argument that you mentioned, the stem cells from the 70s of aborted fetuses/encouraging more abortions, while an important part to their reasoning of being anti-vax, it is not their sole reason of being anti-vax.

The main argument that they relied upon is the conscience of mind. The fact they knew how the vaccines were created (what was inside them, how they materialized), this was in stark contrast to their biblical worldview. They were operating under the presupposition that all life has value whether it is human form or fetal form and that those fetuses were image-bearers of their Holy God. Thus, by this reasoning, that fetal tissue was destroyed and they could not reconcile that within their biblical worldview. The key thing from an outsider's perspective is are they consistent in this line of thinking...this is a difficult process of Christian thinking (see Rom. 12:1-2 and 2 Cor. 10:5). Ultimately, I understand what you are saying when friends within a church flippantly state they will use a religious exemption to not get the shot...this is where I would agree with you that those are not very good arguments because it does not resemble a consistent thought process of all things biblically. But I also recognize when friends in a church use sound reasoning and consistently apply it throughout their lives to make what they think is a wise and God-honoring decision to not get the shots.

I shared a link to an article on here previously of a great contemporary Christian thinker who discusses why he chose to get the Covid shots and encouraged other Christians to do so. He also acknowledges those Christians who disagree and will not get the shot.

My argument is with those people that aren't consistent in their argument. They get vaccinated for other diseases but want to claim a religious exemption from this one. That seems much more political than religious to me.

Personally I don't agree with those that are against all vaccines but at least they are consistent. I would point out, however, that prior to COVID, being an anti-Vaxxer wasn't really a religious thing in most cases. Marin County was one of the places with the highest rates of children without vaccinations. Other than some Jewish sects and Christian Scientists, I never heard of many religious objections to getting vaccinated.
