can you imagine what would have happened had the KHSD moved the 07 BHS-CW game up to Memorial Stadium? How would the Drillers have benefited from having even more fans in the stands, would they have even been down to have given The Mighty Pete Mitchell the opportunity to kick the Kick heard 'round the world.

It would have looked more like the 2004 game.  Somewhere in the back of my head, I keep wondering if this was a good move for Liberty...

Liberty didn't have a choice in the matter...CIF dictated the move due to the atrocious condition of their field; another shortcoming of the KHSD and their maintenance people.

perhaps, the CW team was not accustom to playing on the kind of turf/surface that Griffith. The Griffith sod was much more conducive to players accustom to harsh conditions.
Something tells me that this was not Liberty's call, I would not be surprised if this was the CIF's doing.

figured as much, I am sure the field's conditions have something to do with the team having to practice under the lights the last couple weeks instead of on the practice field, that's in no away meant to take any blame way from the KHSD and their haphazard approach to maintaining the fields.

I was born in Pittsburg but I'm pulling for Liberty.  Unlike other south valley teams, they took the championship in convincing fashion and are the class of the valley.

The Anthill says that the D1 champ is THE Valley Champion, anyone would be hard pressed to say Liberty is not THE Valley champ after having beat Clovis, Buchanan at The Vet and Central at Kooligian

Agreed.  They left no doubt.

Liberty is the undisputed Heavyweight Champions of Central Section Football for the 2021 season.  That Pate's are the Section Champions....everyone else is the winner of a lesser group.

If anything, this new playoff system ensures that this is true.

Well that's good. 80 other schools get screwed in the process but hey, we got an undisputed D1 champ.

I guess the new system eliminates all doubt, but I think the D1 champion in the old system was largely undisputed as well.

It was even more decisive back in the day because the talent was less diluted in CUSD and Bako areas. And please don't talk to me about the GREAT Dos Palos teams beating CW/Clovis/BHS in the mid to late 90's. They were good, but I remember the year CW beat a Matt Leinart led Mater Dei, they had 100 kids on the roster and STILL got beat handily by Clovis twice. DP couldn't beat either, and that's no knock on them at all. Those DP RB's were phenomenal. Just sayin....

Woah, woah, woah... hold your horses, the list of "screwed" schools is by FAR the exception. Most schools wound up where they belonged or didn't even change divisions. We also finally left home all of those really bad teams and played in full brackets. A couple of years ago, we literally had 9 teams in a 16 team D1 bracket. I've seen D3 brackets where the top 5 schools all had byes.

Really Darth....
D2-won by a D1 team.
D3-won by a D3 team who mysteriously fumbled on the last drive of the last game to slip out of D2 and into D3 (I said the quiet part out loud)
D4-Won by a D3
D5-Won by a D2 team (what the living hell) Righetti was 1 and freaking 8 in the regular season!!! The only team they beat was Pioneer Valley who was WINLESS.....AND ALMOST WON D6
D6- won by a D4 team

I wonder if we polled those D3 coaches on whether they'd want to play other D3 teams and have a home game and bye, versus playing two divisions up and getting beat with an away game, what would they want?

It's easy to make grandiose predictions when the chance of a matchup is non-existent.  The old system kept hope alive.  The new system has already dispelled plenty of myths.

Not sure if that's good or bad...

The talent pool is diluted in CUSD and Bakersfield but I would also add to that a lack of coaches or quality coaches I should say at least in Bakersfield/KHSD, at the lower levels for sure. As for Dos Palos beating CW, Clovis or BHS in the 90's there is no chance. Depth alone would have done DP in.

An infamous CVHS poster used the tagline "It's better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt."

The inverse is true for the 'DP teams' out there.  It's exciting to make claims of greatness, just pray to God the CIF doesn't change the playoff rules and make you prove it.

Keep hope alive.
